Every year, Technovation invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology.
That's why we have developed, with the help of our two mentors Alba and Aina, a great APP
Alice is an app that helps children to learn how to eat in a healthy way,
using the food pyramid from the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) as a reference.
Alice is a plant, and to start playing, you choose your favourite plant icon.
Our app contains a game, information about nutrition and health, a pedometer that tells you how much you walk every day and an option where you can feed Alice.
If you feed her with a balanced diet, she will grow nicely. If you don´t do it well, she will give you suggestions about how to improve her nutrition.
We have achive basic programming skills with APP INVENTOR, which is a open development tool to program on Android devices. It provides many interesting examples, including simple games and practical tools, to make programming fun and easy even for beginners as us.
But we have learnt not only programming, but also
It has been a long way but we have achived a great deal, and we will be able to use our new knowledge wherever and whenever we want.
It has been only possible with the valuable help from our mentors Alba (for programming) and Aina (for designing).
With them we have worked all together taking collaborative decisions and working some times online and some times face-to-face.
The jury, formed by people from all over the world, will evaluate the material that we have uploaded to the cloud, as with the code with which the app is made, as well as the companion videos and presentations. If we win the next round we will go to San Francisco (USA), to enjoy the world final. We hope our dream becomes a reality :-)
May 5th was the day we presented our app to the jury of the Eastern Regions of Spain (Comunidad Valenciana, Murcia and Albacete). We were nervous, but the previous work had been intense and we were well prepared.
We made some large posters so that you could see at a glance all the operation of our APP, Alice. Some members of the jury visited us in our stand, and asked some questions about our work.
Our mentors Alba and Aina were with us at all times, helping us as always, and offering us all their strength.
We went to a classroom of the faculty of Agrónomos to make our presentation speech about the App. We took a power point of 4 minutes, and adjusted the sentences and the duration perfectly, so that the jury could only congratulate us.
We waited until the final deliberations of the jury, and then we went to the Paraninfo University. The room was packed.
