Pastor Jeff Schooley
Rev. Schooley joined First Presbyterian Church in July 2017. He comes here via Pittsburgh, PA, where he served as head pastor at Center Presbyterian Church. Though coming from Pittsburgh, he is a native Ohioan, having grown up in nearby Mansfield, Ohio. In addition to his pastoral work at First Presbyterian, he is working on completing his PhD in Christian Ethics from Duquesne University and writes a monthly column for The Presbyterian Outlook. He and his wife, Brianne, have been married for 10 years and are the proud "parents" to an old dog, River. He's absolutely in love with Marysville ("The grass really is greener here," he says!) and you can find him watching sports at Roosters, eating pizza at Benny's, and poking around Pack Rats Comics.
His passions in ministry are for teaching and preaching. When he's not at the church, he's doing work around his new home, spending time with his wife and family, and brewing beer in his basement. He's a self-avowed "book nerd" and loves great conversation over good coffee (or good conversation over great coffee). He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 330-931-9165.
Pastoral Assistant for Christian Education and Visitation
Dick has been a Presbyterian since 1939 when he was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church, Marion, Ohio. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in economics from the College of Wooster, and a Juris Doctor from OSU College of Law. In between Wooster and OSU he served in the Air Force as a C-130 maintenance officer in Okinawa and Thailand. Wherever he was, Dick was active in his church or the chapel. He was Ordained a Deacon at Eastminster Church in Columbus where he belonged while in the Air Force and law school. He joined the Marysville church in 1970 and has served as Deacon, Trustee, and Elder and was the Clerk of Session for ten years. He has attended two General Assemblies of the Presbyterian Church (USA). It was at the first one he attended in 1981 that he became aware of a calling to work in the larger church. He became active in the Presbytery of Scioto Valley, becoming its moderator and chair of a number of its committee. In 1998 The Presbytery formed a class for elders to become Commissioned Ruling Elders, (at the time they were called Commissioned Lay Pastors). Dick applied and after two years of study and class was Commissioned as a Lay Pastor and served the Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church in Marion as its pastor for ten years. Since retiring from Forest Lawn he has been providing pastoral services and preaching for this congregation. He has learned that one of his passions in the church is teaching. He leads a Sunday School class, Tuesday Men’s bible Study, the Kerygma Program, and serves as the resource person for the Education Team. His hobby is woodworking and he is at his happiest when making crosses for the church. He married Carol Latham in this church in 1964. They have two children and three grandchildren.
