Introducing Glass Enterprise Edition

• After two years in a limited program, Glass Enterprise Edition is now available to more businesses through our network of expert partners
• Workers in many fields, like manufacturing, logistics, field services, and healthcare find it useful to consult a wearable device for information and other resources while their hands are busy. That’s why we’ve spent the last two years working closely with a network of more than 30 expert partners to build customized software and business solutions for Glass for people in these fields.
• We first saw signs of Glass’ potential for businesses in the Glass Explorer days. As we said when we graduated, we’d been seeing incredible developments with Glass in the workplace. Now the Glass product team is back at X, and we’ll be collaborating with the Google Cloud team and our partners to help customers across a variety of business sectors make the most of Glass.
• There are now more than 50 customers using Glass including AGCO, DHL, Dignity Health, GE Aviation, NSF International, Sutter Health,The Boeing Company, and Volkswagen.

Are there Google products on the Explorer Edition of Glass?

No. Glass Enterprise Edition is designed to be used by enterprise customers with industry-specific software solutions. Glass uses a custom build of Android and only comes with a camera app that you can take photos or videos and voice command and control capabilities.

Where in Alphabet does Glass live now?

You can think of Glass as a "team sport" across Alphabet as there are a variety of teams across the company that are contributing to its success. The team will spend a lot of their time at X, where we have relevant labs, hardware expertise, and a number of pioneers in wearable computing. We’ll also work closely with the Google Cloud team, as many of their customers could be interested in Glass for their workplaces, as well as the Hardware organization which is still supporting the consumer version of Glass. We’ll tap many other experts across the company as needed.

What is new with Glass Enterprise Edition as compared to the Explorer Edition?

Glass Enterprise Edition is a different, newer device. Some of the key differences include:

• Solutions from expert partners: Over the last 2 years we’ve worked with partners who’ve developed applications customized for work environments in industries such as healthcare and manufacturing
• Frames made for Glass: Glass Enterprise Edition is designed to be attached to frames. This way people can choose frames that suit their face and snap Glass onto them.
• More power and improved battery life: Glass now has better processing power which means it can support people using multiple applications at once and a better battery life so that workers can now stream videos and watch tutorials for longer too.
• Improved camera: Glass now takes clearer pictures, including in low light.
• Connects with other devices: Glass Enterprise Edition can also be used with devices like keyboards or a barcode scanners.
