About the Conference

The European Green Deal is increasingly shaped by a rapidly evolving geopolitical context marked by energy insecurity, industrial competition, supply-chain vulnerabilities, and shifting patterns of global cooperation. Climate law and policy are no longer confined to environmental protection; they now sit at the intersection of economic governance, security strategy, and international relations.

Recent developments, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, the Net-Zero Industry Act, reforms of EU state aid rules and initiatives on critical raw materials, reflect a broader transformation of EU climate governance. The pursuit of climate neutrality is now closely intertwined with concerns about competitiveness, strategic autonomy, and resilience. This conference aims to explore how EU and international climate law are adapting to these new geopolitical realities, and what this transformation means for the future of climate governance in Europe and beyond.
