I teach courses that invite art, design, architecture, and liberal arts students to explore the ways in which science and scientific practices help to define the major issues of our 21st century existence. I currently teach Science of Sustainability, a course required for the Sustainable Environmental Systems graduate degree program, and Science and Society, a "Writing Intensive" undergraduate course required for the program in Critical Visual Studies that also counts as a "Core" General Education elective for all Pratt students.

I was originally trained as an environmental geochemist, with a background in environmental engineering and geology. I earned my PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and held post-doctoral research positions at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and at Rensselaer prior to joining Pratt's faculty. My research focus as an environmental chemist has been on the origin, transport, behavior, and fate of chemical contaminants in the greater New York City urban environment and the lakes and rivers of the Hudson Basin.

I currently advise students with their capstone and thesis research in Pratt's Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment, serving on the capstone committee of Sustainable Environmental Systems, a trans-disciplinary graduate STEM program in sustainability studies. Recent supervised work has been on the themes of light pollution, air pollution, community/occupational exposure to industrial chemicals, and environmental justice.
