Respondus with Chromebooks
Students can now use Chromebooks to complete exams with the Respondus LockDown Browser.
These two settings are required:
Instructors need to enable the Chromebook option when setting up the exam in D2L-Respondus.
Students may need to disable the pop-up blocker.
This page provides information for both of these requirements. Instructors and students can also contact Online Learning or the Help Desk for more information and support.
Step #1: Instructor Enables Chromebook Setting on Respondus
Begin by creating a quiz or exam on D2L as usual, then click on the tab for "LockDown Browser," and click the box at the bottom to continue to the Respondus setup area.
Find the appropriate quiz or exam, click the down-arrow, and select "Settings."
In the Settings area for the LockDown Browser, select:
Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam.
Allow student to use LockDown Browser for Chromebook.
Consider also allowing students to take the exam with an iPad.
Click "Save + Close" at the bottom.
Step #2: Student Disables Popup Blocker on Chrome (or another browser) if needed
The student should navigate to the appropriate Quiz or Exam on D2L as usual, and install the Respondus LockDown Browser before attempting to take the exam - students need to do this once.
In the Chrome browser, click on the three dots at the top right corner, and select "Settings."
In the Settings area, scroll down to the "Privacy and Security" section, and select "Site Settings."
Then, scroll down to the "Content" section, and select "Pop-ups."
Finally, flip the toggle switch to "Allow" popups.
After completing this, you can close the tab.
Return to the Quiz or Exam page on D2L, and click the blue button to "Launch LockDown Browser" and begin the exam.
