Students with accommodations may require different settings on an exam or assignment. Examples can include:
extra time on an exam
a different start and end date for accessing an exam
more than one attempt on an exam
a different due date on an assignment
These different settings can be created in the "Special Access" area at the bottom of the "Restrictions" tab for a quiz, exam, assignment, or other timed item.
For a Quiz or Exam, navigate to the D2L Quizzes area, then:
Click the title of a quiz or exam (to proceed to the editing area).
Click the "Restrictions" tab.
Scroll down to the "Special Access" area.
Follow instructions described below...
For an Assignment with the Classic or Original Assignment Editor, navigate to the D2L Assignments area, then:

For an Assignment with the New Assignment Editor, navigate to the D2L Assignments area, then:
Click the down-arrow next to the name of the assignment, and select "Edit Folder."
Click to expand the box for "Availability Dates & Conditions."
Scroll down to the bottom of this box, and click the link to "Manage Special Access."
Follow instructions described below...
Select “Allow selected users special access” when all students will be taking the exam, but some students will have special accommodations.
Select “Allow only users with special access” to allow only students with accommodations to take the exam. (Students without accommodations will not be able to access the exam if this option is selected.)
Click the box for “Add Users to Special Access,” and adjust one or more of the setting described below...
Assign a different availability period or due date for the exam or assignment if the student is not able to complete the exam or assignment during the regular time period.
Students can access exams and assignments only during the specified availability period. Adjust the availability dates as needed to provide access before or after the regular period.
The due date is not meaningful for exams. Assignments submitted after the due date will be marked as "late."
Assign a different time limit for the exam. This is useful for students who require time-and-a-half or double time. (This option does not apply to assignments.)
Adjust the time by:
Manually assigning a new time limit. (For example, 1.5x of 120 min would be a new time limit of 180 min.)
Assigning a multiple of the original time limit, such as 1.5 or 2.
Adding extra time beyond the regular time. (For example, 1.5x of 120 min would be an extra 60 min.)
Allow a different number of attempts. This option is useful for students who have technology problems and need an additional attempt to complete the exam. It may not be an option for an accommodation.
(This option is not available for assignments.)
Add a checkmark to "Override attempts," select the number of attempts, and click "Apply."
After adjusting one or more of the special access settings illustrated above, select the student(s) who will have the special access.
Add a checkmark next to the students’ name, and click the blue “Add Special Access” when done.
Note: If different students require a different set of special access options, you'll have to assign special access to each one separately. Select more than one student here only if they have the same special access.
When all special access settings are complete, click “Save and Close” at the bottom of the page for the exam or assignment.
