Copy an Existing Course

D2L allows content to be copied from previous courses. There are many reasons to copy content from another course, including:

The course has a template that has been created through a course development process, and the course template meets standards for online learning.
The course has a resource center where instructors can share assignments and instructional content, and the instructor would like to select some of this material for the new course.
An instructor has created a unique version of a course and wants to use that content in subsequent semesters.

To copy the full contents of a course or to select individual content, begin in the blank course where you want to copy content into.

STEP 1: Go to Import / Export / Copy Components

Option 1: Start in the Course Content area, select “Table of Contents,” click “Import Course,” and then select “Copy Existing Course.” (pictured)

Option 2: Click on the gear wheel next to your name and click the link for “Import / Export / Copy Components.”

Option 3: Click on "Course Admin" in the navigational bar; select "Edit course." Then, select "Import/Export/Copy Components."

Step 2: Locate the Course You Wish to Copy

In the “Import / Export / Copy Components” area,

Select the option to "Copy Components from another Org Unit"

Then click the box to “Search for Offering.”

In the pop-up window:

Enter the course code of the course you would like to copy. (You will need to have instructor access to this course in order to copy it.)
Click “Search"
Select the course from the list of search results.
Click “Add Selected.”

Step 3: Choose the Content You Wish to Copy:

Option 1: Copy the entire course: Click “Copy All Components”
(The next page will show a confirmation, and the copying process will begin.)

Option 2: Copy certain modules or assignments: Click “Select Components."

If you clicked “Select Components,” add a checkmark to the items you would like to copy (course content, course files, discussions, assignments, quizzes, etc.).

For each component, specify "copy all items" or "select individual items to copy." Then, click “Continue.”

If you clicked "select individual items to copy," you can now choose the specific items from each course section (course content, files, discussions, assignments, quizzes, etc.).

Click on the “plus” icon to expand the list, and add a checkmark to specific items you would like to copy.

Continue through the next steps, and confirm your selections.

When the copying process is complete, the materials you have copied will display at the bottom of each course section (Course Content, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes).
