Using Text to Demonstrate Knowledge
Watch the video on Informational Text, then watch the Read Aloud Video or use your own informational text.
Copy the graphic organizer on a piece of paper and use text or pictures from the video to share your knowledge about the topic.
Writing
Find a notebook, composition book or paper and have your student write daily using one of the following prompts or about an experience they have had. You student may use lines to represent letters and words and that is ok. Have them include a picture with their story. There is no need to worry about spelling, punctuation or letter formation during this writing block.
Your goal is to let your student be a story teller.

Properties Scavenger Hunt: Scientists observe and record data.
All objects have properties, or characteristics that we can describe. Try finding objects with the properties listed on this scavenger hunt. You can also add your own properties. When you find an item, think or talk about why you think it has that property. (scavenger hunt Google Doc is linked here.)

Where do Vegetables Grow?
Health benefit of vegetables:
Vegetables keep our bodies healthy, especially during the cold winter
Vegetables are full of fiber which keeps our belly happy
We should eat vegetables everyday!
WINTER VEGETABLES:
Kale
Kale is a dark green and is leafy veggie
It grows above the ground
Brussel Sprouts
Brussel sprouts are also a dark green veggie, but they are round and look like little heads of lettuce
It grows above the ground
Carrots
Carrots are orange and come in the shape of triangles
It grows below the ground
Swiss Chard
Swiss chard is another darky green and leafy vegetable like kale
It grows above the ground
Parsnips
Parsnips are white or yellowish and come like carrots are triangles
They grow below the ground
Consider:
What do we know that is different about our winter vegetables?
Color, size, shape, taste, etc.
What do we know that is similar or the same about our winter fruits?
All of the vegetables we learned about grow in the ground
Do all vegetables grow above the ground?
No

Dance to The Vegetable Song
Baked Carrot Fries
Ingredients
Carrots: 2, peeled and cut into the shape of “fries”
Panko bread crumbs: 2 tbsp (*optional)
Salt: as need
Pepper: as needed
Garlic powder: pinch (optional)
Oil: 1 tsp
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400 degree Fahrenheit
Line cooking sheet with foil or parchment paper
In a wide bowl add all the listed ingredients and mix well
Add the carrots, mix and spread on cooking sheet.
Bake approximately 14- 18 minutes.
Extra Crispy: If available broil for 2-3 minutes or for the texture you prefer
