Watch the video lesson on setting and then the read aloud. Draw a picture of the setting of the story.
Writing
Find a notebook, composition book or paper and have your student write daily using one of the following prompts or about an experience they have had. You student may use lines to represent letters and words and that is ok. Have them include a picture with their story. There is no need to worry about spelling, punctuation or letter formation during this writing block.
Your goal is to let your student be a story teller.
Why do kids have to go to school?
If you could be any animal, what would it be? What about this animal makes you like it?
Do you like movies or music better? Why?
What is your favorite season? What makes it your favorite?
If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
Build a backscratcher. Engineers solve problems
Do you ever have an itch in the middle of your back that you can not reach? You can think like an engineer and design a solution to your problem so you can scratch your own back!
Watch this video Think Like an Engineer! so can learn about the engineering process The video will also give you some ideas on the materials that you need to build one at home. Apply what you learned yesterday about the properties of materials. What kind of materials would be good for building a backscratcher?
Possible materials that you could use : plastic fork, tape, straws, ruler, cardboard, bamboo skewers, cardboard, tube, pop cycle sticks, and play-doh

Remember we should try and eat lots of colorful fruit to ensure we are getting vitamins and minerals to fuel our minds and keep our bodies healthy.
We should try to eat 1 to 1.5 cups of fruits every day!

There are also many delicious YELLOW fruits to choose from:
Bananas, pineapples and mangos
We live in Oregon and our late summer and fall season is one of the BEST to grow, harvest and eat delicious fruits such as:
Apples, pears and cherries!
