Character Traits
What the video on Character Traits, then watch the Read Aloud Video.
Choose one character:
What are their positive traits? Do they have any negative traits?
Copy the graphic organizer on a piece of paper and use words and/or pictures to describe the character traits of the character you chose.
Writing
Find a notebook, composition book or paper and have your student write daily using one of the following prompts or about an experience they have had. You student may use lines to represent letters and words and that is ok. Have them include a picture with their story. There is no need to worry about spelling, punctuation or letter formation during this writing block.
Your goal is to let your student be a story teller.
My favorite movie is...., because
My favorite color is..., because....
My best friend is.... I like them because....
My favorite animal is....., because.....
I love to.......with my family.
Why do we wear clothes?
In this lesson, you will explore the different properties of materials used for clothing, such as texture, flexibility, and absorbency. Then you will use this information to design and build a hat that protects you from the Sun.
Go to this Mystery Science Lesson linked here to learn Why do we wear clothes?
Use supplies that you have in your house. Materials you can use for this activity are: Aluminum foil, paper plate or cardboard, paper, paper towel, paper bag, paper clips, string, things in your recycle bin , and other things you can find in your home. You can use different materials that are shown in the video.
Use this link if you want to test the properties of the materials you are using (You can skip this and go right to the building of the hat if you want to.)
Here is the link to the Hat Inspiration worksheet if you need it.
Pathways and Dodging
Today we are going to be working on skill themes and movement concepts. We will start out with two activities with pathways and then we will end with a dodging activity while we are in the state of Hawaii.
For the pathway activity, get some paper so that you can layout your pathways before you perform a movement with it. Then participate in pathway activity #1.
The second pathway activity also adds levels. So you are going to look at the pathway and the level to perform something that you feel fits the task that is presented.
Finally, we are going to take a trip to visit the island of Oahu Hawaii. It is warm there right now because it is on an island. During this activity you are going to jog in place and then you are going to have to dodge the person that jumps out to tag you.
Mindful Eating
There are many reasons that people will decide to eat:
Sometimes we eat when we're hungry.
Sometimes we eat when we're bored.
Sometimes we eat because others around us are eating or we see something that looks yummy.
When we eat "mindfully," we try to notice the difference between these different types of hunger so that we can be aware of times we need to eat because our body needs fuel and times we may be choosing to eat even though our body has enough fuel.
Mindful eating helps us stop and think about the reasons and helps us to be aware of how certain types of food (and quantities of it!) make us feel after eating.
Imagine your favorite meal.
Think about that food and create a collage to represent the senses that match the food.
Draw a picture of the food and write/add words about how it looks, feels, smells, etc.
Example: apple slice with sunflower butter
Looks? – green, wet, brown
Feels when you touch it? – slippery, hard
Smells? – nutty, sweet
Sounds when it is cooking or when you bite into it? – crunchy
Tastes! – sweet and salty

“Explore Their Snacks”
Select a food and use your senses to investigate:
Look - what colors and shapes do you see?
Listen - does your food make a sound when you pick it up or bite it?
Touch - is it smooth, bumpy, or rough?
Smell - what does your food smell like?
Taste - put the food on your tongue but do not chew it just yet. Notice how it feels in your mouth. Do you taste anything yet? Start to chew, does the flavor change? How many different flavors are there?
