OUR VISION
We believe in inclusive instructional approaches in serving Emergent Bilingual/Multilingual learners so that students have greater opportunities throughout their instructional day which ultimately promotes academic language and literacy development.
OUR MISSION
It is the mission of the Portland Public Schools' ELD Academic Program to prepare PPS educators with the perspectives and resources needed to implement equitable and culturally sustaining practices that value linguistic diversity and inclusion. We do this to serve our students so they are able to achieve the attributes of the Graduate Portrait.
K-12 ELD Curriculum Adoption: Our goal is to engage in a rigorous and transparent process that will allow us to select, field test, and review several research-based approaches to K-12 English Language Development instruction. This process will culminate with a curriculum recommendation for Newcomers/Emerging Level students to our Executive ILT and School Board by early May so that we will have time to purchase, introduce, and implement the selected materials and strategies by August 2023. We will also review and evaluate our ELA materials and make recommendations for their use with Integrated ELD. Over the course of the year, our selection committee will be seeking input from and reporting out to PPS stakeholders and our community-at-large.
We provide rigorous, high quality academic learning experiences that are inclusive and joyful. We disrupt racial inequities to create vibrant environments for every student to demonstrate excellence. (July 2021)
