What a book!

Clap When You Land, by Elizabeth Acevedo, is the story of two 16 year old girls, Camino in the Dominican Republic, and Yahaira in New York City who have no idea that the other exists, and that they share a father. When their father dies in a plane crash on his way to his yearly summer visit in the Dominican Republic, the girls discover each other, and grief, and betrayal, and love and the complete reshaping of what they thought their lives are. Written in verse, it is a book not to be missed.
