Loved having you all yesterday on the zoom call. So fun seeing everyone and hearing all your amazing stories! Quick note for parents - I have started differentiating children's work on Seesaw a bit. Some of it I still assign to the whole class but I have finally learned how to only assign to individual students or small groups and I plan on taking full advantage of that! That being said - in some cases I will assign something I feel may be a challenge for them or push them a bit and I am always open to feedback. I do not want to discourage them just encourage to push forward! Thanks for all your support throughout this.

Maybe you can teach a parent or sibling one of the breathing techniques we do in school. When we need to calm down or before we get ready to learn and grow, we focus on taking 5 deep breaths (bubble breath, roller coaster, belly, flower, and candle). Have a whacky Wednesday, my friends.. but not too whacky.

Parent Morning Message:

Good morning parents,

Today I would love for you to talk with your child about the emotion Anger.

  1. First, have them take a look at these images to the left. Talk about what they notice about the different angry faces (Eyebrows down, mouth frowning, tense body).

  2. Talk about what it feels like when their body is angry (the body is tight, the body gets hot, feels sad, etc.). I want your child to learn/talk about the word uncomfortable and how our bodies can feel uncomfortable when we are angry.

  3. The word uncomfortable is vital because we want our kids to know it is okay to feel angry and that everyone does but that it can be uncomfortable. We want to learn what to do when we are feeling angry, so we can make a safe choice.

  4. We talk a lot about identifying the emotion we are feeling, so we have students practice this. When you are feeling something, stop, put your hands on your belly, take a deep breath, and name the emotion you are feeling.

  5. After they practice this, talk to your child about what safe choices they could make if they were feeling angry?

    • The cozy corner (which is filled with calming sensory tools for them to access or just space for them to feel and release)

    • breathing techniques

    • they can take space

    • they can ask for a hug

    • get a drink of water

    • talk to Ms. Gridley

I think something crucial to remember is that not every tactic will work with every student. They need to know their options so they can try them out as the opportunities arise. Feel free to let the conversation become creative - maybe ripping paper up would help him, squeezing playdoh, snuggling stuffed animals, etc.

Here are some videos you can use to reinforce this lesson with your kids!

Student Morning Message:

Good Morning Friends,

Today is Monday, March 23rd, 2020. I hope you all had a great weekend! Today is supposed to be cold, and we may even get snow! On Monday, we usually have art, so I encourage you to head over to Ms. Maher's art page an explore what she has posted so far. Don't forget to check into attendance above at our classroom attendance link and keep up the fantastic work.

Love,

Ms. Gridley

Parent Morning Message:

Good Morning Parents,

Today is technology day! Here is the message from Mr. Sumner:

"If you do not have a computer at home, please come to the E.E.C.S. Bus Circle on Monday, March 23rd, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and you will be issued a device to use for student work while the school is closed. These loaned devices must be returned to E.E.C.S. when school reopens. Please take care of them as you are responsible for returning them in working order.

Please note: Families who already have personal computers at home, or who have Middle School or High School siblings, are asked to share their devices within the family for now. "

Contact Mr.Sumner or me with any questions!

Thank you,

Ms. Gridley

Student Morning Message:

Good Morning Friends,

Today is Thursday, March 19th, 2020. Did anyone spend any time outside yesterday? If you did, did you find any yellow things? Today is going to be a little rainy, so I would love for you to write about what your favorite rainy day movie is and why? Growing up, my favorite movie to watch (even if it wasn't raining) was Matilda! I loved it because she had special powers where she could move things with her mind and I always thought that would be super cool to have. I also loved her teacher, Ms.Honey! Have a fantastic day filled with learning and love my K friends. I miss you all so much!

Love,

Ms.Gridley

Parent Morning Message:

Good Morning Parents,

I wanted to let you all know that we are going to try to start taking attendance. We want to see or know who is accessing the online or packet materials at all! Even if you just come on to use the resources, I would like to know. I believe there will be a more conventional way of going about this in the upcoming days, but for now, if you are accessing this online material or are using the paper materials, please just let me know through any way of contact. It could be a simple text, remind app text, e-mail, or talking points message. Anything works, and until we have a more official way of checking in, I am flexible to whatever works best for you guys.

I thank you all endlessly for your flexibility and willingness to try all of these new things we are throwing your way. None of this would be possible without your endless support! Reach out if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

Ms. Gridley

Student Morning Message:

Good Morning Friends,

Today is Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. I hope you are having fun at home with your family! Today your challenge is to go outside for a walk with an adult-use your foc-o-scope focus and find 3 yellow things on your walk! I also want you to talk to your family about making a home schedule. Miss you all so much!

Love,

Ms.Gridley

Parent Morning Message:

Good Morning Parents,

I am so thankful for your patience and support during this time. I will have this site fully functioning as soon as I possibly. This website will allow you access to an abundance of activities and lessons to utilize throughout our virtual school weeks. In the meantime, feel free to scroll through other Kindergarten pages, the EECS Coaches pages, and the specialist pages!

Today I encourage you and your little one to make a schedule or home routine. Our K students are used to structure and consistency at school, so if we reflect that at home (even a little bit), it could help your kiddo immensely as we settle in. Below are our school schedule and an example of what a home schedule could look like during this time! I want you to know that this is not to add pressure or tell you to do anything a certain way. I am only looking to suggest and guide any parents looking to reflect a little more school life at home. I know you all have your own set of challenges to be taking care of during this time and do not want to add any additional pressure!

Thanks for all you do,

Ms. Gridley

Do not worry about the order of events if this is challenging for you - I suggest consistency just to keep it as similar as possible but more importantly is just finding a routine that works for you and your family!
