Please click on the page of your class to view the candidate stump speeches for class presidents, student body president, or student representative to school board. Your DC coach will pass out election ballots to vote after you have watched the videos. Vote for the candidates you feel will be the best leaders for Deering High School.
What do Class Presidents do?
- Participate in weekly Presidents’ Council meetings
- Preside over Senate meetings, including preparation of agendas
- Organize fundraising events for your class
- Organize community service projects
- Organize school events such as: Spirit Week and Homecoming, Junior and Senior Proms, fundraising events, Lunch and Learn student voice events, silent auctions, blood drives, charitable giving activities
- Facilitate recruitment of students to assist at school events and community service projects
- Keep in constant contact with your class advisor and president council advisor
They are expected to lead the class senate meetings.
All members of the class are invited to participate in senate, but you must attend and participate in meetings on a weekly basis to be considered a class senator.
CLASS PRESIDENTS AND CLASS SENATORS ARE EXPECTED TO:
- attend every scheduled Senate meeting
- attend every event you volunteer and commit to
- encourage classmates to participate in school/class events
Presidents and Senators can best support their class by:
BE ACTIVE:
- Communicate to your classmates the ideas and events of the Senate
- Engage in what is going on during meetings and be respectful to others at meetings
- Be willing to go to all fundraisers and volunteer for as many events as possible
- Involve other classmates in Senate/Senate events/School events
BE COMMITTED:
- Do as much as possible for your classmates
- Complete the task/job volunteered for or assigned to
SHOW MUTUAL INTEREST:
- Work with Senate in efforts to benefit the entire class/school
- Be open to all ideas and respect all ideas
BE RESPONSIBLE:
- Be reliable and follow through with tasks/jobs
- Take action
- Share ideas and be creative
- Obey the school and be truthful and honest
- Be a positive role model for your peers and a positive reflection on Deering High School in an out of school
