Portland Early College Program

What is Portland Early College Program?

Portland Early College Program (PECP) is a five-year high school program, combining the best of the high school and an early college experience!

PECP will offer both online and face-to-face educational instruction to enable students to earn their high school diploma and college credits up to an Associate Degree. Students benefit from a supportive educational environment in which they will receive support services to assist them in their transition from high school to college. Students will have the opportunity to enroll in courses designed to develop and enhance their academic preparation skills, study skills and social maturity skills, thus providing them with the tools they need to make a successful transition to post-secondary education.

 Parent Testimonial

We are thankful that our daughter, Madison Lockwood, had the opportunity to earn a General Associate Degree from Lansing Community College as a participant in the Early College Program offered at Portland High School.  From that point forward, she was able to select a degree and continue to Ferris State University where she is studying Music and Entertainment Business.

We are so thankful for the support that Mr. Haid contributed to her throughout the process of the program.  He enthusiastically assisted with course selections and preparedness for each semester.  He took time to make sure that she was selecting courses that appealed to her interests while meeting the high school and early college requirements. During each semester, he would check in to ensure that she was doing well academically and socially in her online LCC coursework.  The experience of taking online classes prior to the pandemic shutdown made her an agile student during that unprecedented time among other positive attributes.  Mr. Haid also spent time with us, as parents, to make sure that this decision fit well with our family's educational goals.

Upon graduation, Madison earned 60 college credits that were completely paid for by Portland Public Schools.  This decision made a dramatic impact to the overall cost of her college tuition, making this program a great choice for her.  During the 13th year, she was able to take in-person classes on LCC’s campus and explore electives solidifying her selection for a bachelor’s degree.  Now at Ferris, she is confidently taking upper-level courses in her program.  All her general courses were completed and accepted by Ferris as transfer credits.  We support Portland Public Schools in continuing to offer this program to students.
