Social & Emotional Learning, and Mental Health

The district is developing a comprehensive plan for supporting the social-emotional and mental health needs of Portland students. The district has developed a K12 mental health team comprised of counselors, social workers, psychologists, clinicians, member of the community health team, teachers, and administrators. The team is chaired by the district’s Director of Student Support Services. The team will meet throughout the month of August to review current SEL supports and identify enhanced practices necessary to support Portland students. Specifically, the team will develop a plan to gather baseline data on student social-emotional and mental health needs. The data will be collected from parents and through a universal screener. The data will be reviewed at the building level and used to design age-appropriate interventions.
