The Portland Board of Education is reviewing a policy requiring use of face coverings for all students and staff when they are inside the school building, with certain exceptions listed below.

-For anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance, face coverings and masks should not be required, per CDC guidance.

-For anyone who has a medical reason making it unsafe to wear a face covering, masks should not be required.

In a recent survey, eighty-nine percent of families indicated that they would provide face coverings for their students. The district will maintain an inventory and provide face coverings for any students, faculty or staff who request a face covering/mask.
