What is Solent Scaleup

Solent Scaleup is a programme for businesses looking to scaleup. Scaleup is an industry term where a business has a realistic ambition or scalable proposition to grow by 20% each year in either staff, income or bottom line for three years in a row.

By gathering research from across the globe, researchers at the University of Portsmouth have developed a multi-layered diagnostic tool to evaluate the capability and competency strengths and gaps within a company that support or prevent its ability to scaleup.

How does it work

Companies engaging in the programme will undertake an online diagnostic (typically taking 20 minutes). After the diagnostic, eligible companies will have a face-to-face conversation (typically 1hr) with the university's research team who will then produce a scaleup report and recommended actions. Following the report the university will provide a series of bespoke workshops (4 half day sessions) with scaleup companies facing similar capability competency development opportunities.

Research practitioners  and business entrepreneurs will host these workshops through a series of peer-led conversations to help explore solutions, build a personal long-term support network and provide support in turning the report into an action plan.

What is the commitment

Overall the programme requires a commitment of 15hours across 8 weeks, broken down as follows:

• 30 minute scaleup diagnostic (online)

• 1.5hour interview (in person or video call)

• 4x 3hour workshops (spread out over 4 weeks)

Who is it for

Solent Scaleup is a UK wide scheme based in the Solent. It is available to senior executives within established SMEs. Check your eligibility. ** Previous participants in GetSet Solent programmes are not eligible for this course.

What does it cost

The cost  to the business is nothing. The cost of the programme is approximately £4k per business, however this is being covered by the University of Portsmouth in collaboration with the European Regional Development Fund.

If you believe you are eligible, you need to fill in our application form below. Our partners at GetSet Solent will then check your eligibility and if you meet the criteria pass your details to the University to confirm your place on the programme.

You can then expect to be sent an E mail inviting you to undertake the diagnostic and outlining the timeline from then on.
