We have completed the following sessions at the uni over the last few weeks:
Assessment Methods
Running Workshops/Student Self Directed Sessions
Reflective Practice
Digital Skills Embedding
Sustainability Embedding
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Embedding
And the trainees have completed their MicroTeaches
The Microteaches are part of the first module of assessment for trainees to write a lesson plan and rationale which was submitted formally on 7th October planning to deliver a 20-minute micro-teach lesson. The lesson had to be on a topic within their subject specialism and was evaluated supportively by myself and their peers using the Micro-teach Assessment Criteria.
The relfective essay to complete this module is due on Monday 4th November.
This Friday will see me introduce the new content for the second module.
Part 1 is a digital presentation (think back to asynchronous teaching during lockdown!) and the trainees need to complete a mini action research project to research regarding digital skills and student behaviour. They need to apply learning theory to the method, consider external/wider factors that might impact learners ability to engage with this method, and then consider the students behaviour using this method and evaluate that.
For Part 2, they need to produce and submit a Scheme of Work which maps the wider curriculum and shows how they incorporate varied topics to progress students Maths, English, Digital, EDI and Sustainability understanding plus addressing the need to progress Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes.
After half term we we will therefore be looking at these things in focus.
I hope that you have a fabulous half term, that you manage to get some rest, and I look forward to seeing you for the observations just after.
Please provide the following support and guidance to students on placement:
Following the teaching hours guide to give students access to teaching hours in their area of specialism
Allowing them time to complete observations both within the subject area but also outside of the subject area to give breadth of understanding of the FE sector and different teaching styles
Minimum of 30 minute 1-1 with subject mentor to review and set PDR objectives
Conversations about when the joint observation will be and this booked in the diary. It would be ideal if the bookings for Joint observations could be made before half term so that I can organise my travel and other work commitments. The trainees have access to my diary and can make the booking, please allow them the time to pin down a date and time.
