The University of Portsmouth, STR Group, and Solent Partners are looking for individuals from across the Solent region seeking to upskill in AI Leadership to launch or further their careers in this exciting growth area.
Deploy machine learning techniques, learn about the capabilities of AI frameworks and the growth of technological innovations in the field, and their application to real-world problems in engineering, healthcare, agriculture and beyond.
The Programme runs from 18th November 2024 – 28th March 2025 (includes Christmas and New Year Break).
The Bootcamp is free to those unemployed, self-employed, or looking to move company for a promotion/alternative role.
If the Bootcamp is being used as training within your company then you will need to make a contribution to the £6,000 fee - 10% for SMEs (£600) , 30% for larger Companies (£1800).

The AI Leadership Skills Bootcamp is a free* 16 day intensive programme that will build your knowledge of AI, its benefits and ethical challenges and leadership practice for implementation and change. It includes:
100 hours of Guided Learning delivered in person and online
16 days of face-to-face delivery at the University of Portsmouth (fully catered)
Access to leading University and Industry expertise
Employability support through a dedicated module for Job search, CV, Interview and
Preparation of online presence and job fair;
Projects and online quizzes to test learning and progress with ongoing feedback
Access to recruitment expertise in STEM through STR Group, Recruitment consultancy for furthering employment skills and reaching an extensive range of employers.
How you will learn:
The programme that will be comprised of 100 hours of delivery, which will include:
Four teaching/training-based modules - 12 weeks. Introduction to AI, Machine Learning and Data; Innovation Practical AI and ML methods and applications; Data Visualisation and AI/Smart Dashboard Development; and Strategic Management, Professional and Ethical aspects.
An Applied AI project module - 3 weeks.
The Presentation week. All participants will present their Mini Project. This week will also include industry guest lecturers.
The Employability and Personal Development module. Includes activities to support learning, creating and updating their CVs, personal website, personal development plan, employability workshops.
Programme content:
Introduction to AI, Machine Learning, and Data Innovation (Module 1) sets a foundational platform for understanding the basics essential for accessing more advanced areas. This foundation is critical as industries across the region, e.g. aerospace, defence and security who are increasingly seeking professionals who can interpret data and utilise AI-driven solutions to optimise business operations.
Practical AI and Machine Learning Methods and Applications (Module 2) builds on foundational knowledge, the Practical AI and Machine Learning Methods and Applications module is designed to transition from theory to real-world applications, a demand voiced consistently by local businesses. This ensures participants can directly apply their learning in sectors such as manufacturing and maritime, where AI can significantly enhance efficiency and productivity.
Data Visualisation and AI/Smart Dashboard Development (Module 3) examines the critical role effective data presentation plays in business decision-making. In a data-driven economy, the ability to create intuitive and impactful data visualisations is sought after in diverse sectors, including finance and public services, making this skillset highly relevant.
The Management, Professional, and Ethical Aspects of AI module (Module 4) addresses the need for comprehensive understanding beyond technical skills, preparing participants to manage and lead AI projects and tackle ethical considerations in their implementation, often in challenging situations where such technologies are not well understood eg. in SMEs. Change management is also important to drive the necessary changes in the culture and workflows. This is increasingly important as businesses seek to deploy AI responsibly and sustainably.
The Applied AI Project (Module 5) module offers participants a hands-on opportunity to apply their skills in solving real problems, an experience that significantly enhances employability by demonstrating direct workplace applicability. The participants will have the option to select their own project where it is suitable in terms of scope and complexity. Finally, the inclusion of a Presentations Week allows participants to refine their ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, a crucial skill in any professional setting, ensuring they can clearly articulate the value of their solutions to potential employers.

If the learner is unemployed or self-employed then the programme is free.
If the learner is employed and they want to stay within the same company then their employer should co-fund them, 10% for SME or 30% for larger company.
If the learner is employed but looking to move company for a promotion/alternative role then they are independent and the programme is free.
