Some memories by Richard Gray. I spoke to mum and from my understanding my mum and dad bought 4 Oak Avenue from 'Aunt Beth'. She moved to a place on Romany Walk and I remember getting her tablets from the doctor.
So, we moved to Poringland aprox 1985 and left 1993 aprox.
The pond was shared with 3 properties. I found a listing (attached) which shows one of the properties. The pond was natural, quite big and had roach (I think) and ducks on it (one of the images shows some ducklings). I think the land was 1/3rd of an acre. As a child my mum took us past the transmitters and someone was working in there, we nearly managed a tour, but the chap changed his mind as he was worried in case we pressed buttons!
My sister fell in the pond when she was young and Dad had to wade in and get her out (even though it was fenced off).
The photos show winter and our cat Twinkles! I think it may have been 1990??
We had a well also in the garden that fed our bathroom.
Oake Avenue was unmade and narrow. Dad used to fill the pot holes with the burnt coals from the boiler we had.

The police house would have looked like this in 1937 when it was built. The houses were known as "Van Neck" houses , named after the Chief Constable of that time.(Pic. Norfolk Constabulary).

Romany Walk. Formally a meadow where Gypsy caravans stood during the late 1930's. The bungalow was a Fish & Chip shop during that time into the 1950's. Hilda Brooks and later Mr. Campling were the owners (see below). It then became a Florist before a Dental Practice. (Pic. R.Gooderham)

This shelter originally had a thatched roof before being tiled. Built by public donation, a mile of pennies down The Street, and Mrs. Colman paid for the thatched roof.
April 2016 and the bus shelter at The Fiveways is demolished and replaced with the latest design, far right.
