Math Team is an after school class for students in grades 2-4 that meets on Mondays at 3:30 pm. Ms. Penn and fellow math enthusiasts train together to participate in a national math competition. Students develop their abilities to approach novel math problems, improve analytical reasoning capabilities, and flex their mathematical creativity in this supportive environment.
We participate in a national math contest called the Continental Math League aka CML. The "meets" are in written form and take place during after school sessions throughout the year and I submit the scores to CML headquarters. Throughout the year we receive updates of our national standing and it is exciting for the kids to see how we are doing against the other schools. Each after school class is structured with a warm up, hands on activity, and either practice problems or a meet. I pull materials from many sources so that Math Team is a great supplement to the school curriculum.
