Kindergarten students began the year by familiarizing themselves with the Spanish classroom. Through movement and drawing activities, they practiced following basic directions when spoken in Spanish as well as reviewing colors. As part of the Hispanic and Latina Heritage Month celebrations and learnings, Kindergarteners studied papel picado, the art form of cut paper from Mexico, as well as El Árbol del Tule (the Tule Tree). Located in Oaxaca, Mexico, El Árbol del Tule is the widest tree in the world. Students estimated how many children it would take to go all the way around the trunk, and we counted using the outdoor space at Prospect Park. Students then created a class graph with the amount of students they counted. Ask your child what their favorite color is or how many of something there are in Spanish!
