Second grade students solidified the classroom routines that they learned in first grade, such as following basic directions in Spanish, as well as learning to say the days of the week, the weather, and how they are feeling. Second grade students learned basic cardinal points in Spanish and created their own compass roses as a resource. The main unit of study in second grade focuses on places in a neighborhood, such as mercado, panadería and parque. We visited the neighborhood of Sunset Park to observe some of the places, as well as stop for a visit to Don Paco Lopez Panadería, a family owned Mexican bakery. We saw some of the items up on display on an ofrenda for Día de los Muertos and were able to visit the kitchen as well. Ask your child about their favorite part of the panadería or what they saw on the field trip!
