Kindergarten opened the school year with Hispanic Heritage month celebrations, learning three Spanish songs, “Saludo, Saludo” from Puerto Rico, and “La Cucaracha” and “De Colores” from Mexico. We practiced basic salsa and cumbia dance steps and studied the claves, learning simple beats and rhythms while playing along with a variety of salsa and reggaeton songs. We have also explored glockenspiels and xylophones, combining percussion and melody, both in focused note study and free improvisation.
