Accelerated ELA
Ms. Ferran's class
Welcome to English Language Arts (Accelerated class) at Polk County Middle School! Here is a bit of information about your class.
The Accelerated ELA class is meant to be prepare you for advance courses in high school. Keeping in mind that many students begin college classes their Junior year, we focus on writing, critical thinking, abstract reasoning, logic, and reading higher-level texts and higher-order thinking skills. We also work closely with social studies classes and science classes as we read primary source documents and how LANGUAGE has shaped, and been shaped, by history. We also focus on developing strong writing skills, particularly strong paragraphs and essays.
Because we are a language ARTS class, we also exercise our creativity! I hope you come to class with a willingness to learn, an ability to restructure what you think you know, and a willingness to make mistakes (learning is a messy process, but we improve and learn through error). If you ever need anything, please email me at jferran@polkschools.org.
