About Me...

 Hello. My name is Billy Walker and I teach music at Van Wert Elementary School in Rockmart, GA. I'm a graduate of Scottsboro High School (Alabama) and earned my music degree from Jacksonville State University in 1988. I have taught General Music and Middle and High School bands in both Georgia and Alabama since 1989.  I play most instruments, but majored on tuba in college.  I was a member of the Rome Symphony Orchestra, playing viola, string bass, and principal tuba for 16 years  I also play in several other ensembles such as The Roman Festival Brass Band, The Eighth Regiment Band, and numerous others. 2023-2024 will be my 33rd year of teaching. I'm looking forward to another great year at Van Wert Elementary School!

PHILOSOPHY

Music is for everyone, and you can learn at any age.  As a music teacher, my goal is to provide students the knowledge and information to appreciate music as much as I do. I want the music classroom to provide a safe, positive, nurturing and welcoming environment for my students to learn. I want all students to feel motivated and inspired to learn.  I want them to reach their personal best, challenge themselves, as well as the others around them to always be evolving and aspiring to become better.
