Becoming A More Impactful Blended Learning Teacher with Catlin Tucker
Pickerington Schools is happy to be able to bring Catlin Tucker (blended learning, flipped learning, online teaching expert) to our educators. The goal of these workshops are to improve our teaching skills in an online or hybrid model. The sessions will consist of six 1-hour live video sessions with Catlin Tucker over a two week period. Additionally, there will be independent work assignments that will need to be completed during these two-week periods.
Video Sessions will be held at 9 AM for elementary cohorts, 10 AM for middle/junior high cohorts, and 11 AM for high school cohorts. Additionally, Catlin will hold daily office hours from 12 PM to 12:45 PM when she will be available for feedback on independent assignments and further discussion.
There will be two different levels held throughout the summer. You must take level #1 before you can take level #2.
- Cohort Level #1 - Discusses philosophy and strategies for how to teach in a virtual world, teaching, social, and cognitive presence, how to design a course syllabus for virtual learning, grading practices, and code of conduct for students online. Additionally, unit mapping, creating the basic building blocks of an online lesson, how to use Google tools to support virtual learning, student agency and choice, formative assessment strategies, differentiation, and engagement around media.
- Cohort Level #2 - Must take Cohort Level #1 first - Discusses characteristics of a successful online teacher, how to design effective lessons, how to create synchronous and asynchronous lessons, and how does a virtual teacher facilitate learning. Additionally, defining the expectations for behavior, participation, and communication online, how to build a positive community and relationships online, using the 5E instructional model, and using technology tools effectively.
We will be offering both CEU credit and Graduate Credit for both of the levels. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE COURSE FOR CREDIT.
Total work time for each level is 12 total hours, 6 hours of live video meetings with Catlin, and 6 hours of independent work. Teachers will get paid the $20 non-instructional rate for up to 12 hours per level.
We are limited to about 360 teachers that can go through each level. Principals, assistant principals, and other administrators are asked to sign up and be observers to learn the same strategies that the teachers are learning. Paraprofessionals are welcome to join, but teachers will have the first dibs to join the classes.

In each episode, I’ll talk with thought leaders to explore this complex issue, striving for ways to achieve a healthier work-life balance and address the question, “How do we empower ourselves to create and implement boundaries both inside and outside of the classroom?” Presented by StudySync.

- Workshops will be offered via Zoom
- Sessions will be interactive and hands-on
- Participants will join a Google Classroom to engage in conversation & apply what they are learning
- Participants will receive feedback as they work on tasks in Google Classroom
- Sessions will provide teachers with templates (e.g., syllabus, weekly planning document, etc.) they can use to guide their work
- Each session will be followed by additional office hours where they can drop in to ask questions or access individual support as they and work on their own

Graduate credit is offered through Sioux Falls University and Idaho State University.
Requirements for the Graduate Credit.
- Full completion of the level and all requirements as outlined in the syllabus and assigned by Catlin Tucker.
- Creation of a Wakelet and Flipgrid accounts.
- Creation of Wakelet account to store you research findings, articles, social media posts and Flipgrid videos.
- Creation of 6 Flipgrid videos that serve as summaries of your learning and how the material you learned will make you a more impactful teacher/leader.
Graduate Credit is only $125 per level.
You can sign up for grad credit at either the University of Sioux Falls or Idaho State University.

Once you register for the sessions, please make sure you block out the six one-hour live video sessions with Catlin Tucker.
Make sure you have a Google Classroom account and you understand the basics of Google Classroom.
Make sure you have the Zoom app downloaded onto your computer.
We will send you more information from Catlin Tucker including the Google Classroom code and the link for the Zoom room.
