Albert Einstein says: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
When Mary Chase wrote this now classic comedy, her only goal was to bring laughter back to the life of a neighbor that had suffered a heart breaking loss. Her charming look at how we define "sanity" still is relevant today. The show raises questions such as: How do we deal with pain, heartache, and loss? Who do we "talk" to when we feel no one else will understand? How do dreams, myths, and fantasy help us in dealing with the realities of our world? And so we are presented with the eccentric Elwood- who one might say is the least eccentric of all! Elwood is rejecting, (or maybe, ignoring) the world as most of us live it, in favor of a much more pleasant place, where people are genuinely interested in each other, and where people find happiness and satisfaction in simpler things.
So take a couple of hours and leave your cares behind. Let your imagination take flight. Stop and say hello to someone and enjoy a pleasant conversation.
Enjoy the show!
