Dual Credit FAQ
Dual Credit FAQ
How do I pay for the course?
Pay online through VU-X. Log in with the username and password received in an email from VU. Find the Student Account square. Click Statement & Billing and scroll down a little. Click the button to Make A Payment.
Pay by phone at the number below.
What is the VU website?
Most things are done through VU-X. From vinu.edu, click the VU-X logo/link and log in. This is where you can pay your bill, find your A-number, request college transcripts, etc.
What is an A-number?
That is your VU student ID number. It looks like A00123456.
What if I forgot my A-number?
VU would have sent you an email with your A-number after you enrolled. Do an email search for "A00" or "A-number". You can also find it in the VU-X site. If nothing else, I might be able to help you find it.
What if I forgot my VU-X username?
Your username is the email address you used to register for VU and where they send you info.
What if I forgot my VU-X password?
There is a "Forgot your password?" option on the VU-X login screen. Click that, enter your username, and check your email for further instructions.
How much does the Dual Credit course cost?
This course has a registration fee of $75.
When is payment due?
ESTIMATED due date: September 15. If you see a balance of $0 in the payment portal, be patient and check back again in a few days.
What if I get free/reduced lunch?
The $75 will be waived ONLY IF you complete and return this form to PHS by 8/21. You should have received this form with an email from PHS announcing your acceptance to the National Lunch Program. Without this release form, we are not legally allowed to share this information with VU. If VU doesn't know you get free/reduced lunch, you will be billed the full amount.
What happens if I don't pay?
Failure to pay the course fee will result in a 'hold' on your transcript. This will prevent credits from transferring and will also prevent you from registering for other dual credit courses through VU. Also, VU has been known to take people to collections.
Do I have to take the course for dual credit?
No. You might decide it isn't worth the cost. Or perhaps you didn't meet the pre-requisites.
Are the pre-requisites for dual credit?
Yes. Students must have a 2.7 GPA (unweighted) and have earned at least a B- to take any of the 3 dual credit courses. Otherwise, students can take a placement exam called the Accuplacer. Scoring at least 255 on this exam (by 8/29) will qualify you for dual credit. To take Trigonometry in the spring, students must also pass College Algebra with a C- or better.
Is this course grade-weighted?
Dual credit is grade-weighted, non-DC is not.
How do the credits transfer to the college I'll be attending?
It depends on the college. Some colleges count 3 hours or credit and the grade earned. Others only count the hours, but not the grade. For most Indiana colleges, you can check the Indiana Core Transfer Library. Find the box for CTL Name and type "Algebra, College" or "Trigonometry" or "Finite". Scroll through the table to find your school, and look for a Course Number corresponding to your school. If you see "Course Not Taught", that generally means the school will accept CREDIT for the course as a general elective, but not the grade. If you see a Course Number like MA153 or M-118, then you should get credit for that course AND the grade earned with me. If you don't see your school in the table or you want to make sure, I would recommend you contact the school to verify how they'll count the credit.
Can I drop dual credit?
Yes, but notice the following deadlines.
Deadline #1 (est. 8/28) - Full drop, no charge.
Deadline #2 (est. 10/3) - The course won't show on your transcript, but you owe $75.
Deadline #3 (est. 11/3) - Last day to drop. Transcript shows "W" for "Withdrawn" and you owe $75.
