$150 for 5 Two-Hour Sessions per Week (Ages 8-15)

Please check the calendar to see if we have camps already scheduled. If we don't have one you are looking to do, we can arrange to set up a camp by emailing tami@plaedu.org or texting/calling 805-705-0687. I do not usually answer the phone when I am teaching, but I will get back to you as soon as possible if you leave a message and let me know the best time to contact you.

MINDFULLNESS ART explores geometric patterns and symmetry

Using drawing or painting, we will create works of art that help calm and focus the mind. We will practice making mandalas which use geometric shapes in a circular pattern, zentangles that use different patterns within a rectangular shape, dangle doodles that drop from the top of pages or words, spirographs using special tools to create meditative circular designs, and using string to help design Celtic knots, mandalas, and spirals. All materials and use of tools are included in the price, but kids may want to go out and buy their own spirograph tools, pens, and/or papers. Students get to keep their creations.

STRING, THREAD, AND YARN CRAFTS explores sequencing and patterning

In this camp, students will be introduced to several crafts using string, yarn, and thread. First we will learn how to sew string art cards or wall decorations. Then, we will make friendship bracelets to practice tying simple knots using embroidery threads. This leads into lace making called "tatting" to create models of flowers or snowflakes. We then move on to crocheting circular coasters or square washcloths. We will also explore creating crocheted or tatted dream catchers. Each of these crafts can be expanded into more advanced lessons or camps. All supplies and use of tools are included in this introductory camp, but kids may want to buy their own card stock, string, threads, yarns, needles, shuttles, and/or hooks after learning how to use them. Students will also be able to keep all their projects.

PAPER QUILLING explores shape attributes

Students will first get to make their own quilling tools using everyday objects. Then we will use these tools to learn how to make the different shapes, models, and designs for beautiful pieces of art. We will also use quilling techniques to make paper beads. Not only will students take home their creations but also the tools they made for more fun at home. All the supplies you will need to provide at home will be scrap paper and tacky glue for hours of fun.
