HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: Chile. With an average width of only 180 kilometers (111.85 miles), Chile may very well be the narrowest country in the world. Chile is a hotspot for earthquakes due to its location within the Ring of Fire. Due to Chilean poets’ success with the Nobel Prize, Chile is sometimes called the “land of the poets” or el país de poetas in Spanish. The Atacama Desert, which you find in Chile, is the driest non-polar desert in the world. In Chile, you could technically ski and surf in one day. Depending on where you’d like to go skiing and surfing, the drive from one activity to the next would take about 3-4 hours.
