Every Friday in October is Port Pride & Pink at PJHS in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Cancer changes everyone and every family it touches. Breast cancer is the 2nd most common form of cancer in women in the US. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetimes. Let's show our support for those who have been affected by cancer, the families that love and care for them, and the medical providers who treat them while we continue to hope for a cure!

Congratulations to the girls' varsity tennis team for their hard fought 4-3 victory over O'Neil yesterday. The girls all played their very best in their hard fought victory. With the win the girls were able to win their division! Port's #1 Reina Ebbecke and Port's #2 Caroline Centauro qualified to play in the doubles OCIAA Tennis Tournament on October 11th. Brielle Rene and Elissa Santini with their win also qualified for the tournament.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: Paraguay is considered the heart “el Corazon” of South America due to its landlocked location. Though Paraguay is a land-locked country with no border on the ocean, it has a well-trained navy. Their navy is the largest of any land-locked country in the world. The people of Paraguay enjoy sports, including football (soccer), rugby, tennis, and volleyball.
Youth in Government students who wish to go on the October trip MUST return their permission forms to Mrs.Perkowski in the library by TODAY the 7th. If you have questions or need a permission form, check the Google Classroom or see Mrs. Perkowski.
The registration deadline to sign up for the PSAT is TODAY, October 7th at 3 PM. Students who are registered to take the PSAT next Wednesday October 12th should bring two sharpened # 2 pencils, a calculator, a snack and a drink. Calculators will not be provided on the day of the exam. After arriving in the morning, students should leave all of their belongings and electronics in their locker. If you do not know your locker number or combination, please see Mrs. Sauschuck in the AP's office before next Wednesday. After you drop off your belongings and your phone in your locker, students should report directly to the gym to find their assigned seat. Please see your counselor or Ms. Oldham in the guidance office with any questions.
TOMORROW:
Honor Flight: This Saturday , October 8th is the "Honor Flight." The bus will be leaving the high school at 6:30pm, headed toward Stewart Airport where we will welcome local US veterans of war as they return from Washington DC. If you are interested in joining us for this event, please email ASAP. There is still room on the bus. We will be awarding 4 hours of community service for those who participate in this event.

There will be a girls wrestling information meeting Tuesday 10/11 at 2:30 in the rubber gym for any girl that is interested in coming out for the wrestling team this year.
There will be a brief informational meeting regarding this year's Spring Musical production on Tuesday, October 11th, at 2:30 in Mrs. Gordon's room, 125. We will be going over auditions, rehearsal schedules, performances and announcing this year's show! If you are interested in joining the DRAMA CLUB Classroom for 22-23, please click the link below. Please complete the form on the guidance google classroom if you are interested in taking the ASVAB exam on Saturday, November 5th at 8 AM at Port Jervis High School. What is the ASVAB? The is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually to more than one million military applicants, high school, and post-secondary students.
BOYS BASKETBALL INTRAMURALS: Wednesdays and Thursdays through November, high school boy’s basketball open gyms. Located at the ASK gym. Doors open at 6pm and end at 8pm. Random teams selected, all high school boys invited.
The Character Trait of the Month for October is MINDFULNESS: Please wear Purple on Wednesdays to represent MINDFULNESS. Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
Applications are now open for Sobo & Sobo’s Annual Scholarship Contest (2022-2023)! This year, high school seniors who are attending a two or four-year college immediately after graduating are invited to submit a 30 to 60 second video. Any student who will be driving to school needs to come to the AP's office and pick up an application for a parking permit. If you have previously received one you do not need to apply for a new one. Please make sure to display your permit in the bottom of your back window on the driver side. Stop by the Assistant Principal's office and see Mrs. Sauschuck for an application.
