The first SADD meeting will be held in Room 106 after school today. Come join the club that runs the PowderPuff football game and the Senior Prize Giveaway! New members are welcome and we will explain what SADD stands for at the meeting!
🌈 There will be a GSA meeting today at 2:15 in the guidance office. All are welcome!
The library will be closed today periods 3, 7 & 8. It will also be closed tomorrow all day.
The Junior Class has a few extra boxes of Krispy Kremes for sale! See Mr. Dunleavy or Hov if interested. First come, first serve!
The Haunted House Meeting at Farnum is meeting today and at Farnum until 5:00 pm.
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: Nicaragua Nicaragua is the largest of the Central American republics. It was the only country in Latin America to be colonized by both the Spanish and the British. Present-day Nicaragua is still recovering from its legacy of the Sandinista dictatorship and civil war. Nicaragua has a Mosquito Coast That Is Not Named After Mosquitos. The Mosquito Coast of present-day Nicaragua on the eastern coast of the country is not named after mosquitos but derives its name from the indigenous Miskito Amerindians who lived in the area.
There will be a girls wrestling information meeting Tuesday 10/11 at 2:30 in the rubber gym for any girl that is interested in coming out for the wrestling team this year.
Honor Flight: This Saturday , October 8th is the "Honor Flight." The bus will be leaving the high school at 6:30pm, headed toward Stewart Airport where we will welcome local US veterans of war as they return from Washington DC. If you are interested in joining us for this event, please email ASAP. There is still room on the bus. We will be awarding 4 hours of community service for those who participate in this event.
PSAT INFO: The PSAT will be offered at Port Jervis High School on Wednesday, October 12th. College bound sophomores and juniors should register for this important exam. The test will be in the gymnasium and will be administered from 8 AM-approximately 11:30 AM. If you haven't already, register using the link in the sophomore or junior guidance google classroom. This exam is free for all sophomores and juniors. If you have any questions please see your counselor.
Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors:
Please complete the form on the guidance google classroom if you are interested in taking the ASVAB exam on Saturday, November 5th at 8 AM at Port Jervis High School. What is the ASVAB? The is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually to more than one million military applicants, high school, and post-secondary students.
TOMORROW:
Senior information night is this Thursday, October 6th at 6PM in the high school auditorium. All seniors and their parents should attend this informative information session.
Underclassmen Picture Day will be held Thursday, October 6th. Grades 9, 10, & 11 have been scheduled with their English teachers. No purchase is required. However, all students are to sit for a photo for their individual student ID cards & the yearbook. Staff is also invited to sit for a photo for the yearbook.
BOYS BASKETBALL INTRAMURALS: Wednesdays and Thursdays through November, high school boy’s basketball open gyms. Located at the ASK gym. Doors open at 6pm and end at 8pm. Random teams selected, all high school boys invited.
Congratulations to the following students and staff for being recognized for demonstrating the September Character Trait of the Month---Empathy. They are lucky recipients of a gift certificate to the school store! Let's go PJHS and keep showing our good character! PJHS staff and students represented Empathy, the Character Trait of the Month, by wearing GREEN on Wednesdays in September.

The Character Trait of the Month for October is MINDFULNESS: Please wear Purple on Wednesdays to represent MINDFULNESS. Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations.
Mindfulness - the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something; a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
There will be a brief informational meeting regarding this year's Spring Musical production on Tuesday, October 11th, at 2:30 in Mrs. Gordon's room, 125. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
Applications are now open for Sobo & Sobo’s Annual Scholarship Contest (2022-2023)! This year, high school seniors who are attending a two or four-year college immediately after graduating are invited to submit a 30 to 60 second video. Any student who will be driving to school needs to come to the AP's office and pick up an application for a parking permit. If you have previously received one you do not need to apply for a new one. Please make sure to display your permit in the bottom of your back window on the driver side. Stop by the Assistant Principal's office and see Mrs. Sauschuck for an application.
