PORT JERVIS HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Today is a “B” Day

• BIRTHDAYS: Kevin Mesnick Jr., Caleb Reed, Landan Schuller & Kayden Walker

• TODAY: 

  • Boys basketball tryouts are today. The gym opens at 4:30pm. Tryouts start at 5pm and end at 7pm. You MUST be cleared on Family ID in order to try out.

  • Seniors, Baby Pictures, Friends Then and Now, and Siblings Pictures are due Friday November 18th by 2:12. Bring them to room 104 or hand them into the front office. This is the final deadline and they will not be accepted after the 18th.

  • Basketball Cheerleading tryouts will be held today from 3-4:30pm in the HS Cafeteria. Please register on FamilyID.

  • The AP's office is looking for a few volunteers to help out next week after school.  The HS donates Thanksgiving dinners to families in need in our district and we would like to provide each family with dessert.  We will be cooking after school this week and need your help!  Sign ups are in the AP's office.....please see Mrs. Nyland or Mrs. Sauschuck.  HURRY, SPACE IS LIMITED!!

  • There will be an in person parent meeting for Senior Trip information on Wednesday Nov 16 at 7pm in the high school cafeteria. There will also be an online google meet on Thursday Nov 17 at 8pm.  Link will be posted in the class of 2023 google classroom, NOT the guidance google classroom.

  • Mock Trial is still looking for a few good attorneys and witnesses. If you are interested, our next meeting is today after school in room 311.

  • The library is closed today for the 1st 10 minutes of 1st period, 5th, 8th & 9th period.

• TOMORROW:

  • Wear blue for the character trait of the month: Gratitude!

  • Chess Club meeting in room 311 after school.

• The next meeting of the PJYC (Port Jervis Youth Coalition) is Monday, 11/28 at 2:15pm in room 103~~new and existing members are welcome!

• The Character Trait of the Month for November is Gratitude!  Wear blue this month every Wednesday for Gratitude!

• ATTENTION ALL SENIORS:  Parent Ads are DUE 12/23/22.  All pictures and Ads can be handed into Mrs. Van Horn in room 104 or the front office.

• Are you an adventurous student? Do you like snow, skiing, snowshoeing, and exploring new ecosystems, are you an upper level science student? If so, the Winter Ecology Trip is for you! Dats are: 1/24-1/28 and permission slips and itineraries are posted outside of room 209.   Deposits and permission slips will be accepted until the trip is full. See Mrs. Stankunas if you have any questions.

• Cooking Club: The sign up sheet is outside of room 103. Please sign up during your guided learning or lunch. Have any questions? Contact the club president Mikaela M., vice president Karlee Acevedo or Mrs. Coalla via email. A google classroom will be created. 

• The indoor track sign-up sheet is posted in room 109. Speak to Coach Wright if you have any questions.

• BOYS BASKETBALL INTRAMURALS: Wednesdays and Thursdays through November, high school boy’s basketball open gyms. Located at the ASK gym. Doors open at 6pm and end at 8pm. Random teams selected, all high school boys invited.

• Chess Club is back! Whether an experienced competitor or brand new to the game, all are welcome to join Chess Club. Meetings are after school every Wednesday in room 311

• SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY:

  • NYS PTA Jenkins Memorial Scholarship application for HS Seniors who will pursue a degree in education is now available on the NYS PTA website. https://nyspta.org/home/pta-leaders/awards-and-recognitions/jenkins-scholarship/ All applications must be postmarked or submitted electronically by DEC. 15, 2022.

  • The Youth Humanitarian Award in Memory of Stanley Marcus is now available to Juniors and Seniors. This $250 scholarship is for students who display humanitarian principles by word and deed.  Mailed applications must be postmarked by Jan. 31, 2023.  Please see the link: https://nyspta.org/home/pta-leaders/awards-and-recognitions/youth-humanitarian-award/

• Do you want a quiet place to eat your lunch? The following rooms are available for students to go to during their lunch period. Period 6-room 131, period 7-A Day-Auditorium, B Day-guidance conference & period 8 room 103.

• DECA School Store Open!!! Come down and check us out!  Hours;  Right after school Mon - Friday 2:15 to 3:30.  See you there!!! Pizza Thursday  $2.50 per slice.

• Any student who will be driving to school needs to come to the AP's office and pick up an application for a parking permit.  If you have previously received one you do not need to apply for a new one.  Please make sure to display your permit in the bottom of your back window on the driver side.  Stop by the Assistant Principal's office and see Mrs. Sauschuck for an application.
