The indoor track team competed in the Section Nine track and Field championships Friday night at West Point. The Section Nine Class B meet was long, but well worth it. We had a small group of athletes, but they came to play. Savannah Mioglionico got things rolling with a third place finish in the 55h (missed school record by .04 seconds) and is the first Port girl to medal in hurdles. Kaitlyn Batzel finished 2nd in the 55m (missed school record by .04). Manny Roman won the 55m with a time of 6.66 seconds (missed school record by .02 seconds). Benson Cilius brought home the win in shot put. Ashur Allen won the 300m beating his nearest competitor by 1.2 seconds (missed school record by .01 seconds) and is the first Port boy to win the 300m. And in what was the race of the night, the girls 4x200 relay of Kaitlyn Batzel, Marlee Prespare, Vada Glass, and Kendra Johnson brought home the gold. They were ranked 5th going into the event. They beat their higher-ranked opponents with great handoffs and improved foot speed. We are very proud of our kids. The great part is that we still have three meets left to break those school records.
