  • The LIBRARY IS CLOSED today period 5.

  • This weekend the Runnin’ Raiders took part in the Coliseum Classic held at Goshen High School. Unfortunately, the meet was cut short due to thunderstorms and some of our athletes did not have a chance to compete in their events. Those that did compete did a great job. Our top performers were:

Girls- Abigail Russell (7th in 200m out of 350 girls), Troi Roberts (32nd in 200m out of 350), Aniyah Green (47th in LJ out of 100), Alexa Bennett (26th in shot out of 109 girls), Brielle Rene (36th in shot out of 109), Mikaela Murphy (37th in shot out of 109)

Boys- Ellis Startup (4th in shot out of 90 boys), Xavian Joseph (32nd out of 90), Tyrie Caridad (50th in 200m out of 340 boys), Josiah Welch (52nd in 200 out of 340), Emannuel Roman (56th in 200), TJ Fergus (70th in 200)

• Beginning Wednesday, April 19th, breakfast will ONLY be available until 8:30 am.  Students should be getting breakfast before school starts.  In the event that this does not happen, you can get a grab and go breakfast located outside of the cafe by putting in your student #.   Breakfast will not be available during guided learnings in the cafe, the serving line will be closed.

• Take Down Tobacco.  The PJYC wants all of PJHS to know The Facts About Big Tobacco 2023.  (https://www.takedowntobacco.org/) Just some of the ways the tobacco industry tries to trick and deceive us: 

  • Most smokers start as kids, lured by the tobacco industry’s targeted marketing.  90% of U.S. adult smokers begin while in their teens or earlier, and 2/3 become daily smokers before they reach age 19.

  • Smoking causes over a dozen types of cancer and harms nearly every organ of the body.  Smoking is responsible for about 1/3 of all deaths from cancer and heart disease in the U.S. It also causes lung diseases, diabetes and other debilitating health conditions.

• The Student Council is hosting the spring blood drive April 27, 2023 from 8-12 in the NYBlood Center Bloodmobile. Please sign up through the link below. Students 16 and older may donate. Please pick up your permission slips in the main office or print from the attached files. 16 year olds need both permission slips. 17 & 18 year olds need the school permission slip. Students must return the permission slips before Tuesday April 25th to the main office to participate. You must have an appointment. You will need your confirmation, permission slip, and a form of ID  (either a license or school id card) the day of the drive. If you do not have an ID, please see Ms. Leicht in the main office. • The Powder Puff Teams have been created.Here are the teams for the game on Friday May 12th. You will be hearing from your coaches about practices.

• The Character Trait of the month for April is Friendship.  Please wear red for Friendship on Wednesdays! Friendship - a state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people. In all cultures, friendships are important relationships throughout a person's life span.

• Seniors - The Guy Perkowski Blue Collar Scholarship, The Matthew O'Brien Memorial Scholarship, and The Masonic War Veterans Beth-El Post #29 Scholarship have all been added to Naviance and your Senior Guidance Google Classroom. Scholarships will continue to be posted as they are received. Please apply!

• FEARLESS! is taking applications for their 12th annual Summer Youth Leadership Academy (SYLA).  The free, in-person week-long program aims to empower students entering grades 9-12 to learn about racism, bullying, gender oppression, the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and building solutions for change.

WHEN:  July 24- July 28 |  - Port Jervis Recreational Center, 135 Pike Street 

Students will receive:

• 30 Hours of Community Service, $50 Stipend *new this year, A Letter of Recommendation

• Do you want a quiet place to eat your lunch? The following rooms are available for students to go to during their lunch period. Period 6-room 131, period 7-A Day-Auditorium, B Day-guidance conference & period 8 room 103.

• Any student who will be driving to school needs to come to the AP's office and pick up an application for a parking permit.  If you have previously received one you do not need to apply for a new one.  Please make sure to display your permit in the bottom of your back window on the driver side.  Stop by the Assistant Principal's office and see Mrs. Sauschuck for an application.
