Monthly Poems
Poem of the Month
At the start of every new month your child will receive a copy of the monthly poem. This poem will be recited at the start of each school day. By the end of the month, your child will be expected to write the poem in their best handwriting and decorate the page. As the year progresses, the students will be required to write the poem in cursive.
They will also be expected to recite the poem in front of the class. On this page you will find the poems for each month of the year.

My School Pledge
I pledge today to do my best
in reading, math and all the rest.
I promise to obey the rules
in the class and in the school.
I'll respect myself and others, too.
I'll expect the best in all I do.
I am here to learn all I can,
to try my best and be all I am.
October
An Autumn Day
Pumpkins in the cornfields,
gold among the brown,
leaves of rust and scarlet
trembling slowly down;
birds that travel southward,
lovely time to play;
nothing is as pleasant
as an autumn day!
November
A Child's Song
I'm thankful for the sunshine bright,
for the rain and for starts at night;
I'm thankful for each flower and tree,
and all the beauty that I see.
I'm grateful for our singing birds
and for my mother's gentle words;
I'm grateful for kind friends and true;
help me to be a good friend too.
December
December Celebrations
Every Year at just this time,
in cold and dark December,
families around the world
all gather to remember,
with presents and with parties,
with feasting and with fun,
customs and traditions
for people old and young.
So every year around the world
in all the lands and nations,
people of all ages love
DECEMBER CELEBRATIONS.
January
Winter Worries
Oh, lucky, lucky, lucky me!
I'm lucky as a child can be.
When winter winds my ears would harm,
My fuzzy earmuffs keep them warm.
When ice and snow take little nips,
Warm mittens cover my finger tips.
My cozy coat keeps out the breeze,
My corduroys protect my knees.
But, up to now, no clothes are sold
To keep my NOSE from getting cold!
February
Snowman's Valentine
I have a jolly snowman,
The best I've ever had.
I'm giving him a valentine
that ought to make him glad.
For though he's very handsome
and sound in every part,
I noticed only yesterday
he hasn't any heart.
So quickly with my scissors
and paper red and fine
I made a fancy little heart;
my snowman's valentine!
March
Windy Word
I am the Wind
and you'd better watch out!
I can run, I can fly;
I can whistle and shout.
I can tap on your window
and howl at your door,
tug on your coat tails,
bellow and roar.
But in March I'm the loudest;
Look out for my might!
For when you're not looking
I'll steal your new kite!
April
Rainy Day
I used to hate a rainy day.
There were no outside games to play,
and even though our house was roomy
the gray rain made the inside gloomy.
Now, I don't mind the rain at all,
for when no friends come to call,
I've all the company I need.
I pick me out a book and read!
May
Flowers for Mother
I never have a special day
To give flowers to my mother;
I give them to her every day
To show how much I love her.
When I sweep the kitchen floor,
or care for baby brother,
run on errands, or make the beds,
I’m giving flowers to mother.
It’s lots of fun pretending
and to hear my mother say,
“Thank you, Dear, for all the flowers
You’ve given to me today.”
