A Peek Into Our Day!
Arrival: Students come into the classroom and hang up their backpacks on their assigned hooks. They also take out their snack bags and place them in the white snack bin, and place their folder in the basket.
Morning Work: Students find their seat at the table to complete an independent task.
Circle Time: Students gather on the carpet in front of the SmartBoard. We begin with a gross motor activity. We then sing a greeting song to welcome everyone to school for the day.. A picture schedule is posted to discuss the events of the day. We use www.starfall.com to create a calendar to discuss what month it is, the days of the week, practice counting, and also discuss any upcoming special events or holidays. We also talk about the weather and the changing seasons. We recite songs and poems related to the themes we are learning about. We also read poems and sing songs about the letters of the alphabet, numbers 0-10, and shapes.
Group Activity: This activity pertains to the weekly theme and/or the letter of the week. Whether it is using our senses, creating a graph/chart, using the smartboard, reading a story or looking at pictures, etc. this activity directly relates to key components of the preschool curriculum.
Specials: The students participate in the following classes for 30 minutes.
- Music with Mr. Chapman
- Library with Mrs. Franchi
The students attend Gym with Mr. Gangloff twice a week for 20 minutes.
AM students also participate in Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy group activities, each once a week for 30 minutes.
Learning Centers: Various learning centers within the classroom allow the children to explore, create, socialize, dramatize, and most of all have fun! Learning Centers include:
- Blocks & Building Center
- Math & Manipulatives
- Art Center
- Sensory Play
- Dramatic Play Center
Story Time: Books are chosen based on the weekly theme and/or letter of the week. Reading activities help children to develop an appreciation and enjoyment of literature. They enhance children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills and expand their knowledge.
Music & Movement: At the end of our day we sing some of our favorite songs, act out some of our favorite fingerplays, and sometimes dance and shake our sillies out!
