BEGINNING OF THE YEAR - HELPFUL HINTS

1) Please look for your invitation to join our SeeSaw communication tool. This invitation will be sent home with your child on Friday, August 13, 2021. (SeeSaw will allow us to 'text' or email parents to share important information. In addition, our 5th grade website will be updated weekly with important information. Please bookmark this website.)

2) Take a look at the Parent GoGuardian links below to learn how you can monitor your child's use of PISD devices after school hours if desired. (This option is new this school year.)

3) Sign up for District Texts by texting YES to 67587

4) Take a look at the 5th Grade Calendar below. Students have required nightly reading (20 minutes) each night Monday through Thursday with a short comprehension piece (5 questions) each scheduled Friday. We are excited that students can access these stories using their HMH textbooks OR online through webdesk.pisd.edu. Students may also use the read aloud feature to help with improving fluency. If your child uses this option, please be sure that your child uses the book online or hard copy to follow along while the text is read aloud. (Please see chart below evidencing the benefits of 20 minutes of reading daily.)

5) Students are required to complete 5 lessons on Dreambox per week outside of school. We have found that this consistent practice helps to solidify math skills and extend students who need it.
