The Pine Bush Central School District has made a concerted effort to introduce STEM initiatives K-12. Elementary schools have an Engineering program, Middle Schools have STEAM programs and afterschool STEAM clubs, and our High School has a cutting edge program which has been in existence for approximately eight years. Over this period of time, we have re-designed our Technology labs to make them state of the art 21st century learning spaces. Our program features additive and subtractive manufacturing and our students are learning from highly skilled teachers who have a passion for teaching and learning. Our students are working on equipment including: Thirty Six 3D printers (FDM, Stereolithography, Clay), HAAS ST10 Lathe, HAAS Mini Mill, an injection molder, FARO Laser Arm, Laser Cutter, Plotter, Vinyl Cutter, Ceramic Glaze Printer, OMax Waterjet, Universal Robotic Arm.
Each class has a formal curriculum which includes hands on authentic projects and rigorous assessments. Almost all of our STEAM related classes are full year courses, but we also have several courses which are semesterized. All full year courses culminate in students having the ability to earn one high school credit; while half year courses students can earn half a credit. In addition, we have articulation agreements with local colleges where students can earn three college credits per class for CAD 101, CAD 102, and Engineering 101. Students can also earn industry credentials in HAAS Mill Operator, Lathe Operator, and Universal Robot. Most costs associated with these programs are entirely covered by the School District with exceptions being college tuition, Summer Academy tuition and credentialing exams. All student materials and computer software programs/site licenses are also covered by the District.
