We expect our Honor Society students to be responsible and independent. Therefore, all communication should come from students, not the parents.
Outlined below is the step-by-step process potential NJHS Candidates at CVMS will undergo.
Students with a GPA of 93.00 or higher are informed of their eligibility and given the Candidate Qualification Form.
Students complete the Candidate Qualification Form, Leadership Assignment, and ask supervisors to complete all required recommendations before the deadline. Current classroom teachers are asked to complete a brief questionnaire for each candidate.
The chapter advisors review each Candidate Qualification Form and ensure that all required materials were received.
The Faculty Council (consisting of five anonymous teachers) reviews completed Candidate Qualification Forms and votes on each candidate.
Candidates are notified whether or not they were selected for membership.
Selected members officially join the National Junior Honor Society by attending the Induction Ceremony.
*Non-selected students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with an advisor to discuss why they were not selected and how they can improve their chances in the future.
*It is within the rights of non-selected students to appeal the decision of the Faculty Council within two school days of being notified of their non-selection. It is important to note that an appeal made with no new information will not result in a different outcome. Appeals are most successful when the student is able to clearly address any concerns that affected their candidacy and articulate why the Faculty Council should reconsider their decision.
