Saukee School Resource Officers (SRO), Kenny Yelliott & Paul Petty began their first day on January 7th, 2019. These SRO's will be seen on a part-time basis in all three school buildings with Officer Yelliott primarily assigned at PCS and Paul Petty primarily assigned to PHS.
These two School Resource Officers are career law enforcement officers with sworn authority who have been deployed in a community-oriented policing role and will be strictly assigned on a part-time basis to our district. This program will not only be rooted in the school, but also in the community at large. The goal of the program is to provide another level of security for our faculty, staff, and students while forging both an internal and external partnership beyond the buildings they will patrol.
Integrating the school resource officer into the daily functioning of the school is critical to the program's success and evolution. The functions these officers will serve include: visible agents on campus dealing with law-related issues; classroom resource for instruction in law-related education and areas of expertise; a member of the faculty and administrative team that works to solve problems in the school community; build positive relationships with students; and a resource for teachers, parents, and students for law-related concerns and questions.
These officers will be using the National SRO Triad Concept which includes allows the officer to be a Law Enforcement Officer, Mentor, and Teacher in the school community. With a primary focus on school safety as a law enforcement officer, these officers will also be engaged in law-related education and other areas in their profession as well as a mentor with the responsibility of assisting in the curtailing of a student's life-changing destructive behavioral decision making regardless of the circumstances.
It is encouraged that any and all questions regarding the position be brought to the administration or the SRO's to assist in any manner possible.
Homework Headquarters is from 3:30pm-4:30 pm and open to ALL D-pod students (6-8). Those who need a quiet place to do their assignments, would like to have help with their assignments, or just want to get the majority of the work done before they go home are encouraged to attend.
*REMINDER: Each time your student is absent or late, we must have a physical note for the missed time to be considered excused.
You can find the Friday Newsletter on our Website (https://sites.google.com/pikeland.org/pcs/home), on our PCS Facebook page, and it will be sent via teacherease. If we do not have your e-mail address, please call the school and give it to us. We will also have a few paper copies in the office if you wish to pick one up. The Menu for the new month is also on our website or can be picked up in our office.
