Week 2: Do You Know About Basic Needs Support at Phoenix College?

Are life’s challenges getting in the way of your education? Phoenix College is here to help! Through programs like the Bear Necessities Office, Disability Resources and Services (DRS), Veterans Services, and Student Life & Leadership, you can access the support you need to stay on track.

Bear Necessities can help get you connected with a wide range of services, including:

• Food, housing, and utilities resources 

• Child care resources 

• Public benefits like SNAP and WIC 

• Limited emergency funds 

• Transportation help 

• Legal aid resources 

• FAFSA completion assistance 

• Financial Literacy program 

Getting Started is Easy:

1. Contact us to schedule an appointment with our office. We'll provide 1:1 assistance applying for any benefits, and more.  We're located on the lower level of the Hannelly Center, in the Counseling Department.

Disability Resources and Services (DRS)
DRS offers tailored support for students, including:

• Academic accommodations

• Faculty consultations

• Assistive technology

Veterans Services
Our dedicated Veterans Services team supports U.S. veterans and their dependents with:

• Academic assistance

• Individualized enrollment help

• Referrals for on- and off-campus resources

Student Life & Leadership Food Support
Struggling to afford food or supplies? Student Life & Leadership partners with St. Mary’s Food Bank and other community resources to offer these services:

1) Grab 'n Go Lunches:

• Location: Inside the Student Union

• Available Weekdays

• Includes noodle cups, snacks, and bottled water—no appointment needed!

2) Appointment Services at Bumstead’s Resource Room:

• Location: Student Union

• Schedule a visit by calling 602-532-8155 or stopping by the Student Union Front Desk.

• Select up to 10 food or household items per visit.

• Hours: Monday-Thursday (8:30 AM–5:30 PM), Friday (10:30 AM–3:00 PM).

3) Patio Pick-Up Events:

• Location: Student Union Patio

• No appointment needed. Twice a month on Wednesdays during the semester.

• Offers fresh produce, perishable foods, and non-perishables.
