Outreach Activities
Surprise SciTech Festival. The event was in Surprise, Arizona, where we taught over 160 students over 4.5 hours on the application of 3D printers and laser engraver etches using broadband mobile equipment. Each student walked away with an engraved artifact. This was a half-day event.
Phoenix College Alumni Event. The CMC lab was used to engrave 100 glass tumblers using the Epilog Fusion Laser for a returning Alumni event. CMC then staffed the event with a 3D and laser engraving live demonstration to discuss the grant and how the equipment can be used. This was an afternoon/evening event.
Dental Clinics. The Phoenix College Dental Department conducts community outreach clinics so students can receive dental treatments. CMC, with the dental department, set up a 3D printing display, an immersive table with printed objects for students to interact with, and personalized dental bookmarks created by the CMC staff for each patient to the clinic and all the students and clinicians who staffed the event totaling 120 plus artifacts. This was an all-day event.
Phoenix College Library. The CMC staff set up and maintained a month-long display in the PC library and took questions from students, faculty, and staff on the lab operations and 3D printing processes.
Orientations to the Mobile Computing Lab. CMC staff have conducted 20 orientations for students using the mobile computing lab equipment. This includes the use of 3D printers and general lab operations.
Abilities Expo. At the Abilities expo, a regional event drawing in thousands from across the region, we set up a 3D printing and etching display. At the event, we talked to an estimated 600-plus people expo attendees about 3D printing and the opportunities at the college, including the grant and the functions of the mobile computing lab, and how the 3D printing process works with flyers and handouts provided to expo participants.
