What is a Professional School Counselor?
Professional school counselors are certified/licensed educators with a minimum of a master’s degree in school counseling. Through there education and experiences, they address the needs of students through a data-driven, comprehensive school counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. You can find professional school counselors in elementary, middle/junior high and high school settings. As school counselors, our overall mission is to lead all of our students to success!
What are our roles as School Counselors?
A developmental school counseling program is an integral part of a student's educational program and is important to every student's academic success. The program is not only preventative, but proactive in nature designed to teach all students. The purpose of a middle school counseling program is to provide all students an opportunity to further develop their social/emotional growth, academic success and career exploration. As school counselors, we work in collaboration with administration, faculty, parents, and the community to build a scaffolding of knowledge and skills that provide high academic performance, effective decision making, and positive self esteem that will continue throughout the life span.
