Pope Francis Had Died
On Easter Monday, Vatican officials announced that Pope Francis had passed away at 7:35 am from respiratory illness. The Bishop of Rome succumbed from a stroke, coma, and irreversible heart failure.
Pope Francis, whose real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was the first Latin American to be Pope. He was elected in 2013 after Pope Benedict XVI's surprise resignation. Pope Francis was known for his liberal advocacies, such as LGBT rights and immigrant rights. World leaders and people of different faiths sent condolences to the Pope.
However, as much as the Spiritual Leader did good, the Papal leader received some criticisms in certain situations. Pope Francis failed to condemn a Cuban government crackdown on a protester in 2022. In Nicaragua, the same situation happened with another protester four years prior. Pope Francis was criticized by Nicaraguans for having a weak and timid stance on the issue in the country. Certainly, some felt the Pope could have done more before his death.
Pope Francis will be buried beneath St. Peter’s Basilica, but in a humble tomb per request by the man himself. The late Pope’s funeral procession will be held this Saturday.
