Would you rather be in a forest with a bear or a man?
One hypothetical question that has sparked debates and heated arguments across the world. The origin of this question stems from a viral TikTok video in which TikTok user callmebkbk while speaking stated, “If you’re alone in the woods, seeing a man is 10 times scarier than seeing a bear.” Afterward, a TikTok account named Screenshot HQ published a video, asking 8 women the famous question of whether they wanted to be in a forest with a bear or a man, 7 of the 8 replied bear without hesitation. This video sparked the question to be spread much further.
As the question spread, many women and a minority of men who were victims of sexual violence shared their opinions, explaining that they would rather be with a bear than a man in a forest due to their previous history with men. Many who were not victims of sexual violence also voiced their opinions and used data like how one sixth of women are victims of attempted or completed rape to support their choices.
There is the opposite side of the spectrum as well. Those who picked a man showed dissatisfaction at the oversimplification of things, often stating that it is an unbelievable generalization as you would practically be saying that all men are rapists.
Many however argued back that the chances of bear attacks are extremely low, much lower than getting raped. The other side of course had arguments as well to such a statement.
Although one should consider both sides of the argument, the question shouldn’t be taken too seriously as it does not specify a lot of things that could be important to the final decision, the type of forest you are in and how big it is, what type of bear with you be with, how far away will the bear/man be, etc. These are important factors to consider, and without considering such factors the question is too vague.
