Celebrating Women’s History Month at PHCSE
Dear PHCSE Families,
March is Women’s History Month (!!!), a time to celebrate and learn about the many women whose ideas, courage, leadership, and creativity have helped shape our world.
Just this past weekend, communities around the world recognized International Women's Day on March 8 — a global celebration of the achievements of women and a reminder of the ongoing work toward opportunity and equity across fields and communities. Throughout this month, our goal is to engage students culturally and academically through exploration of the stories of women who have influenced history; while also actively recognizing the women shaping our present — in our homes, our communities, and right here at PHCSE.
Women’s contributions can be found everywhere — in science, literature, education, government, the arts, business, and activism. When we all take the time to learn these stories, we expand our understanding of leadership, perseverance, and possibility; which allows new perspectives to take shape, ultimately impacting the way we walk into our tomorrow.
Families who are interested in exploring more together at home may enjoy these resources:
Learn about influential women through short biographies from the National Women's History Museum
Dive deeper into global stories and themes connected to International Women’s Day through UN Women
Listen to inspiring stories about women from around the world through the Rebel Girls podcast
Discover primary sources and historical collections curated by the Library of Congress
Explore stories of innovators and scientists highlighted by the Smithsonian Institution
We would also love to celebrate the women who inspire our PHCSE community. If your child would like to shout out a special woman in their life — a family member, teacher, mentor, or community member — feel free to send her name and a sentence about why she inspires them. We may highlight a few throughout the month.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership in supporting our students’ learning and growth.
Warmly,
Dr. Abriana Leeper, Principal
